Joint Performance with the Minnehaha Academy Wind Ensemble

MSW pairs with the Minnehaha Academy Wind Ensemble to celebrate the joy of music-making as our concert seasons begin. Play!, a work by Carl Holmquist and premiered by MSW in 2006, was recently awarded the coveted Claude T. Smith Composition Award. It will receive an encore performance along with works from the creative minds of Grainger, Grantham and Broughton. The program will also feature both ensembles joined as a massed band to close the concert.

Share our excitement with this special preview concert of the program we’ll present at The Midwest Clinic on December 19 in Chicago. The pealing tones from the Copper Street Brass Quintet will join in this festive concert and be featured on John Wasson’s Tangents, as well as present a few holiday classics on their own. Our annual silent auction, held in conjunction with this concert, promises to streamline your holiday shopping.

From the historic premiere of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue to the craziness of Frank Ticheli’s Blue Shades, jazz has had a profound influence on the music written for the concert hall. Join us for a wild ride through driving rhythms, blue notes, and lush harmonies as we experience the exploration of jazz in the concert band world.

MSW is honored to present one of the opening concerts during the inaugural season of the impressive Burnsville Performing Arts Center. The highlight of the program will feature the premiere of a new work by Gregory Sylvester, a graduate of Burnsville High School, commissioned by the City of Burnsville to commemorate the opening of this grand facility. Major works by Vaughan Williams and Respighi will also be presented.
